Description:
This class introduces knitters to the basics of stranded colorwork through the South Philly Skulls Cowl pattern. Students will learn how to read a colorwork chart, manage floats, and maintain even tension while working with two colors. The project is knit in the round, making it a good first step into stranded colorwork for knitters who already know how to knit, purl, and work in the round. By the end of class, participants will have made strong progress on their cowl and gained the confidence to take on future colorwork projects.

Class Goals:
  • Learn to read and follow stranded colorwork charts
  • Practice managing two yarns and floats
  • Build confidence in stranded knitting techniques
  • Begin (and depending on each knitter’s pace, possibly finish) a colorwork cowl
Session Breakdown:
  • Session 1 (2 hours): Introduction to stranded colorwork, chart reading, floats/tension, demonstration, guided knitting.
  • Session 2 (2 hours): Student check-in, review of progress, troubleshooting common issues, guided knitting, finishing tips (ribbing, bind off, blocking).
Pre-Work:
Students should arrive at the first class with 120 stitches cast on in Main Color and 1.5" of 2x2 ribbing completed in the round. The colorwork section will begin together in class.

(As always - please reach out if you have any questions!)
